Environmental & Social Studies
Technical Explanation
Broad Environmental and Social studies cover specialized assessments that might not be full EIA/ESIA, such as biodiversity surveys, climate risk studies, social baseline surveys, or other thematic studies. They aim to collect data and analyze specific aspects – for example, a wildlife habitat assessment or a socio-economic survey of communities – to inform project design or management plans.
Main requirements
Required when specific aspects of the environment or community need detailed understanding (e.g. a wildlife study in a protected area, or a gender-impact study for a community program). Needs experts in the relevant field and often fieldwork (e.g. sampling flora/fauna, stakeholder interviews). These studies feed into larger impact assessments or resource management plans.
