Photogrammetric Drones
Technical Explanation
Drone photogrammetry uses UAVs equipped with cameras to capture overlapping aerial images. These are processed with software to generate georeferenced orthophotos and 3D models (point clouds, DEMs) of the terrain. It produces high-resolution maps and measurements by “stitching” many images together via GPS and photogrammetric algorithms.
Main requirements
Required when a detailed site map or 3D model is needed quickly (e.g. construction sites, land surveys). Needs suitable flying conditions and permissions, plus ground control points for accuracy. Ideal for mapping areas that are hard to survey on foot or need frequent updates.
